Would you like to teach in a highly engaged learning community that features class sizes no larger than 16 students? Bergman Academy offers teacher-leadership opportunities and the chance to work with involved parents and a staff of dedicated professionals. We are currently accepting applications for a full-time Spanish language teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Teaching duties will include providing Spanish language instruction to Pre-K through 8th grade students. Our Spanish language program uses a teaching method known as Comprehensible Input/TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), which allows students to learn a second language in much the same manner as they learned their first language, through the senses and comprehensible input. Formal training or familiarity using CI is not necessary. The ideal candidate holds a current Iowa teaching license, is a fluent Spanish speaker, is an enthusiastic and flexible teammate, and has a passion for working with learners of all ages. Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary.

Bergman Academy is a state-accredited, secular private school offering Preschool through 8th grade. We are located in the heart of Greenwood Park in Des Moines. We emphasize individualized learning to help students master the Iowa Core Curriculum standards. We have a team of professionals who have chosen education not only as their vocation but as their avocation. Our families and staff value academic mastery while encouraging all students to work toward becoming self-motivated young adults ready to become leaders of tomorrow.

We believe that each child should be challenged and supported in reaching his or her own individual potential. The students interact across grade levels academically and socially, which fosters a family atmosphere core to our culture. Our teachers possess flexibility, strong content knowledge, familiarity with developmentally appropriate practices, and a passion for teaching.

We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and passionate individual to fill this spot on our staff.  Muscatine High School is home to 1,400 students and is known for highly rigorous courses as well as well as top-performing athletics and activities.  Just recently, Muscatine High School was identified as a Top-25 high school in the state of Iowa as awarded by the Iowa AP Index.

Situated on the Mississippi River, Muscatine is located just 30 miles from both Iowa City and the Quad Cities.  Most of our teachers live in Muscatine, but a number of them do make the commute from either Iowa City or the Quad Cities.  There are truly many options for our employees in terms of places to live and things to do!
